This Salg cover illustrates the Leo Edwards' fictional
characters' comradeship and growing independence
that tens of thousands of readers of his books craved.
 
 
 
Leo Edwards' books spoke to and encouraged activity in
groups such as the Boy Scouts. Several of his books
featured goats as prime characters and major
contributors to the stories' humor .
 
 
 
Boys' magazine covers during this period often depicted
topical subjects, such as Charles Lindbergh's nonstop
flight from New York to Paris, but also may have
included the humor and fun the readers appreciated.
 
 
 
Fun was a large part of most of his stories. Humor was
prominately featured and tailored to appeal to his
specific audience. Harrison Cady was the
illustrator of this cover.
 
 
 
Patriotism was often a feature reinforced on the covers,
especially since the Boy Scouts of America published
Boys' Life magazine.

Humor, and somewhat realistic exciting fun
dramatically overemphasized, was the theme that
grabbed the prospective reader's attention.
