Bert Salg was the illustrator for nearly all of Edward Lee's books. His initial association
with Edward Lee probably occurred because they both contributed their early work to
Grossett and Dunlap. This developed into a friendship that lasted until Salg's untimely
death in 1938 at the age of 57. Their combination resulted in Salg illustrations that,
correctly inserted, matched Lee's words and story line in a manner that greatly
increased the interest and enjoyment for the reader.
